The basic free program allows the user to record up to 15 minutes of video. There is a Pro version that users can purchase for $15 a year. This Pro user will have access to unlimited recording time as well expanded editing options.
Screencast-O-Matic offers is a great resource for educators and students who use screencasting. Teachers can record lessons that can be posted so that their students can access this information at any time. This can be helpful for flipped classrooms and/or providing a student the opportunity to watch a lesson for review or reinforcement. This would be appropriate for all student levels based on how the educator designs their lessons.

Teachers can use screencasting to introduce concepts that will later be discussed in depth in the classroom. Once a teacher creates the screencast, the teacher can assign the students to watch the lesson for homework. Then the next day, the teacher can cover the lesson in more depth. Also, the teacher can create variety of screencasts that can be used by the student to help reinforce concepts that he/she learned in the classroom. This can be a great tool for students who need to go back and rewatch the lesson in order to increase their level of understanding.

Personally, I am a fan of Screencast-O-Matic because of its ease of use for making quick videos that can easily be integrated in a lesson. Also, the free version offers 15 minutes of recording time, which is more than many other screencasting sites that are available. Highly recommended.
